Does this CVE affect our system?
A scanner reports CVE-2023-1177 beside MLflow, a tool used to track machine-learning experiments and manage models. That tells you what to investigate. It does not yet prove how your organization's installation is used.
Start with the publisher's scope
The MLflow advisory GHSA-xg73-94fp-g449 describes remote file access involving deployments launched through mlflow server or mlflow ui. It lists affected versions through 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 as the patch for this specific issue. It also distinguishes integrations that do not run those commands.
This is a historical fix boundary, not advice to install an old release today. The service owner should choose a currently supported release after checking current advisories and compatibility requirements. Resolving this CVE does not resolve every issue in the package.
Fill the gaps one at a time
In this synthetic example, a scanner found MLflow 2.2.0 in an image used for a staging model registry. Nobody has checked the running service or its access controls. Load the public example and leave applicability as Unknown, meaning you do not yet have enough evidence.
| Question | What we know | What to request |
|---|---|---|
| What is installed? | Scanner reports MLflow 2.2.0 in an image | Running image identifier and runtime version |
| How is it used? | Staging registry reported | Service launch command and enabled features |
| Who can reach it? | Not confirmed | Network route and authentication evidence |
| Who can fix it? | ML platform team | Accountable owner and approved change process |
An image is a packaged environment, not proof of what is running. A registry is the service that manages model versions. Ask the owner for references to the deployment and configuration records; do not request credentials or run an exploit to prove the issue.
Choose an applicability status only when supported
If the operator confirms the affected version and relevant deployment conditions, they can attest Affected and record why. If evidence demonstrates the integration is outside the advisory's scope, they can attest Not affected with that rationale. AI Patch Desk does not make either judgment.
Access controls may reduce exposure. Record which controls exist and how they were checked. An assumed private subnet is not evidence that vulnerable software has been patched. If the controls cannot be verified, say so.
Ask for a concrete next action
A junior analyst's useful handoff can be a request to confirm the launch command and version, nominate an owner and plan the supported upgrade. It does not have to claim certainty. Follow your team's escalation rules for urgent findings and involve a senior analyst when the evidence or business impact is unclear.
After the change, record the running version and the owner's verification result. Use Remediated only when evidence supports it. A closed change ticket without a post-change check is an incomplete explanation.
